NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting

Course Description

This course is designed to introduce you to basic firearms handling and safety. If you are a first-time gun owner, or you would just like to become safe and proficient with a firearm, this course is a great way to develop confidence and skills. Course topics include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.

If you plan to take a Concealed Carry course, this Basic Pistol Shooting course is a great way to prepare by improving your firearm knowledge, safety and skills first.

This course does not meet the requirements for a Concealed Carry Course certificate. If you are not yet confident in your ability to handle, load, and unload firearms safely, please consider attending this course, or our NRA Women On Target® course, prior to attending the Concealed Carry course.
